Defense of the Ancients (commonly known as DotA) is a mod for the real-time strategy video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft.Dota adalah skenario kustom untuk game RTS (Real Time Strategy) Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos dan The Frozen Throne. Dota terinspirasi oleh map “Aeon of Strife” untuk Starcraft. Tujuan skenario ini adalah untuk menghancurkan Ancient lawan. Pemain bisa menggunakan unit yang kuat yang biasa dikenal dengan sebutan Hero, dan juga dibantu oleh Hero teman dan anak buah yang dikendalikan oleh AI.
Seperti RPG, pemain bisa menaikkan level Hero mereka dan menggunakan emas untuk membeli perlengkapan selama misi. Game DOTA ini bisa dimainkan secara offline maupun online dengan menumpang di salah satu server, misalnya di indogamers, tapi harus daftar dulu.
